On April 29th, over 200 students from 17 area high schools will descend on West Liberty University’s Media Arts Center to take part in an all day MAD event. The 2011 Media Arts and Design festival will provide a wide array of sessions and workshops in the media arts. Guest speakers will provide expertise on a range of exciting topics including animation, video, digital imaging, electronic music, illustration, mixed media, digital photography, web design and multimedia. The day begins at 8:00 AM with registration and ends at 9:00 PM with the conclusion of MADFEST 2011, a multimedia spectacular of student and professional work. Special guest artists for this year’s event include Matt Mahurin, a world renowned artist, illustrator, videographer and filmmaker, and Lisa Desimini, an award winning artist and illustrator of more than 30 children’s books.

“The morning sessions will be targeted toward high school students and teachers,” stated Jim Haizlett, MAD Festival Director, ” but the afternoon and evening sessions will be especially geared for college students and media professionals.”
Matt Mahurin is debuting his “Imagemaker’s Workshop” during the afternoon sessions, which is a retrospective of 25 years of world-class imagemaking. Mahurin has illustrated 40 TIME magazine covers, directed videos for bands such as REM, U2, and Metallica, and has produced award winning documentary films.
