West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts

West Liberty’s College of Arts and Communications is completing the third and final year of hosting the Governor’s School for the Arts. For each of the past three years, the three-week School has brought 100 of the most promising West Virginia artistic students to West Liberty’s campus. The students, who will be high school juniors next Fall, study intensively in one of seven artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Visual Art, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music, Dance, Acting, and Digital Media. West Liberty’s Department of Music and Theater hosted the School mainly in the Fine Arts Building, although the students utilized nearly the entire campus during the three weeks. Likewise, the GSA faculty was made up of many of WLU’s full-time faculty. West Liberty also hosted the Governor’s School for the Arts in 2001 and 2002. Next year, the School will move on to another West Virginia institution.
