WLU Vocalists Shine at NATS competition

Congratulations to West Liberty’s voice studio!! Our students garnered four first place awards, four second place awards, and one third place award at the NATS competition in Morgantown, April 10th 2010.
Dr. Linda Cowan, Associate Professor of voice at WLU, is the Governor of the West Virginia State chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She created and coordinated the first-ever West Virginia NATS Student Auditions this past weekend and below are the results for WLU’s voice students. Dr. Angela Day is adjunct professor of voice at WLU. Each students’ private voice teacher is listed in parentheses.

Classical HIgh School Women:
1st place tie: Jessica Starkey (Cowan) and Johnna Leary (Cowan)

Musical Theater High School Women:
1st place: Jessica Starkey

Freshmen Women:
2nd place: Kassidy Wells (Cowan)
3rd place: Alex Perkins (Day)

Musical Theater Lower College Women:
1st Place: Karin Freese (Cowan)

Freshmen Men:
2nd place: Alan Cline (Cowan)

Sophomore Women:
2nd place: Erin Mazzocca (Cowan)

Musical Theater Upper College Women:
2nd place: Jessica Strader (Day)
