Over thirty artists explore the theme of Frankenstein in the “Frankenstein Invitational” in the Nutting Gallery. “The novel Frankenstein was a warning against the expansion of modern man in the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel’s subtitle, The Modern Prometheus” said gallery director Robert Villamagna and “Mary Shelly is likely to have acquired some ideas for Frankenstein’s character from Humphry Davy’s book Elements of Chemical Philosophy in which he had written that “science has…bestowed upon man powers which may be called creative; which have enabled him to change and modify the beings around him…” The myth of Frankenstein, the history of the story in pop culture and the fun of Halloween night will make this a show to remember.
The opening reception is on Wednesday, October 31, 6-8:00 and photos of the opening can be viewed on the Nutting Gallery Facebook page following the opening. The show runs from October 31-November 22, 20112 with gallery hours: 8:30 – 2:30 PM, weekdays or by appointment.
