Student Evaluation of Courses
Policy 215 : “Student evaluation of courses shall be utilized for faculty evaluation and for the improvement of instruction.”
Online course evaluations are processed by the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. West Liberty Faculty Senate revised Policy No. 215, and the evaluation core questions to accommodate the transition to an online delivery method, and these changes were officially approved by Faculty Senate on February 17, 2015.
SmartEval, the online delivery system, provides improved reporting capabilities for faculty and administration. For example faculty can create as many as five additional course specific questions for any/all of their classes, and departments and programs have the same opportunity to collect program specific data by including additional questions. The Office eLearning includes five additional questions on course evaluations associated with distance learning courses, and the Learning and Student Development Center includes an additional question set for all sections of Freshman Experience.
Students and faculty receive email notification when the survey collection begins, and periodic reminders before the evaluation period (one to two weeks) ends. Surveys can be completed with a smart phone, laptop, computer or similar device. SmartEvals provide faculty with the ability to create reports and view student comments for their courses. Although faculty do not receive any reports until after grades are published, SmartEvals results are always anonymous.
