ALUMNI “WALL OF HONOR” The West Liberty University Alumni Board of Directors instituted a project in 1990 to demonstrate to current students, visitors, and friends that the college has some very successful graduates. This project, known as the “Alumni Wall of Honor,” is a dramatic way to honor some of the college’s most distinguished alumni and display pride in the accomplishments of its graduates. The concept was suggested by then Associate Professor of Physics Robert W. Schramm, who is a 1958 graduate of the college and a 2002 Alumni Wall of Honor inductee. The Alumni Wall of Honor is housed in the south end of the Union known as the Alumni Lounge.
Alex Paris
Inducted 2022Alex graduated from Avella High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from West Liberty University, where he also was a member of the WLU wrestling team. Representing the third generation at the helm of the family business, Alex E. Paris Contracting, Alex has earned a reputation for his business acumen and commitment to quality. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the National Utility Contractors Association and is a Former President of the PA Utility Contractors Association. In both 2001 and 2009, he was named Contractor of the Year by the PA Utility Contractors Association.
During Alex’s tenure as CEO APC has been honored in the following ways:
- The state of Pennsylvania’s Excellence in Highway Design
- Recognized by “Engineering News Record” as one of the largest underground utility contractors in the country.
- The CIT, national “Rebuilding America” Award
Those who know Alex will agree that he is very generous in many ways – especially with his time, his knowledge and expertise, and his charitable giving. Alex and his wife Valerie have been very generous to the WLU Foundation with lifetime donations over $255,000.
Alex has also made time to serve on the WLUF Board, and the boards of the Washington Hospital Foundation, Athletics Inc. of Avella and the Washington County Community Foundation among others.
