ALUMNI “WALL OF HONOR” The West Liberty University Alumni Board of Directors instituted a project in 1990 to demonstrate to current students, visitors, and friends that the college has some very successful graduates. This project, known as the “Alumni Wall of Honor,” is a dramatic way to honor some of the college’s most distinguished alumni and display pride in the accomplishments of its graduates. The concept was suggested by then Associate Professor of Physics Robert W. Schramm, who is a 1958 graduate of the college and a 2002 Alumni Wall of Honor inductee. The Alumni Wall of Honor is housed in the south end of the Union known as the Alumni Lounge.
Aaron Joel Monseau
Inducted 2020Aaron Joel “AJ” Monseau grew up in West Liberty and was frequently on campus as his father Vince was long-time professor and coach and his mother an administrative secretary at Elbin Library. After completing his BS as an Elbin Scholar at WLSC with a 4.0 GPA and a double major in Biology and Chemistry in 2003, he earned his MD at WVU with a residency in Emergency Medicine then a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship from the University of Michigan. He is certified in both fields and currently serves at WVU as Associate Professor in Emergency Medicine, Head Team Physician and Medical Director for Athletics, and Fellowship Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine (a program he founded).
AJ wrestled and ran cross-country at WLSC and was an NCAA II Wrestling All-American, 4x Academic All-American, 2x Team Captain, and NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship recipient. At WLSC, he also led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, worked part-time in the library, and participated in other campus and community activities.
In addition to clinical and administrative duties, Monseau is heavily involved in research and has been published in numerous journals and texts as well as leadership, speaking, and moderating positions in national organizations and committees. AJ has served as team physician for USA Wrestling for national and international competitions including the 2016 Rio Olympics. In 2017, the WVSSAC appointed him to their Sports Medicine Committee.
With other WLU wrestling alums, AJ helped establish the Wrestling Legacy Gift to support the WLU wrestling program in 2018. He continues to work in community health efforts and youth sports in Morgantown where he resides with his loving wife Chandra and their four children: Bianca, Mason, Giuliana, and Dominic.
