Tyler McCullough, son of WLU tennis coach Sam McCullough, and graduate of West Liberty University in May 2012, was recently awarded the Arthur Ashe Jr. National Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. He was honored at the U.S. Tennis Association Billy Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. The award is in honor of Arthur Ashe who was the only black man to win both the Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and was the first and only African-American to be ranked No. 1 tennis player in the world. But off the court Ashe was known for his humanitarian works. In particular his work raising awareness of the oppressive government in South Africa and AIDS.
