Susan Chew McNeil – 1965

Susan E. McNeil died peacefully on January 17, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was 81. Susan was born Susan Edith Chew to her parents, Harry A. Chew and Catherine A. Cox Chew, in Wheeling, WV. Her mother died when Susan was only 4 years old and she then gained her mother, Edith M. Deel Chew. Her only sibling, Robert M. Chew of Arizona and Seattle, predeceased her. Susan and William H. McNeil were high school sweethearts. They married April 23, 1955 and had three children, Ann Marie, Terry Adams, and William Howard McNeil, III. Terry died in childhood. Susan graduated as Salutatorian from Wheeling High School, West Liberty State College, and West Virginia University with her Master’s in Special Education. Her entire career was teaching the mentally challenged, in both Wheeling, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year in Ohio County Schools, and Palm Beach County Schools. Bill and Susan moved to Palm Beach County in 1980. She enjoyed many hobbies, especially going on trips to Ireland with her husband. She was a voracious reader, reading several books a week. Susan was an active member of the Palm Beach County Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division, serving as secretary, treasurer, and publisher of the newsletter. Susan will be missed deeply by her husband, Bill, of Lake Worth; daughter and her husband, (Ann Marie and Rick Lewis) of Boynton Beach; son and his wife, (Bill and JoEllen) of Cleveland, OH; granddaughter, her husband, and their daughter of New York; grandson, (Paul Lewis) of Boynton Beach; and nephews and nieces: Carl Chew of Seattle, Zoe Chew Smith of California, and Paul Chew of North Carolina. Close friends and family members will be remembering Susan at a quiet ceremony on February 12, 2017 . She will be interred at the South Florida VA Military Cemetary as well as at the Greenwood Cemetary in Wheeling, WV.
