Hugh C. Tate, Sr. – 1976

Hugh Tate Sr. of New Cumberland, WV, passed away on February 5, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Hugh was an Eagle Scouth and father of an Eagle Scout. Hugh was also a Methodist. Hugh graduated in 1976 from West Liberty State College with a Bechelor’s Degree in Business Administraion with a concentration in journalism. While he was at West Liberty he was elected Vice President and then President of Student Government. He was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity where he served as vice-president and pledge trainer. In 1976, Hugh joined the Hancock Courier Printing Co. and in 1982 became co-owner. co-publisher, and co-editor. In 2010, he and his wife bought the company and became the sole editer and publisher of the paper. For six years he served as Municipal Court Judge in New Cumberland and was a member of Lodge #22 A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite of Wheeling, Osiris Shriners of Wheeling, the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, and the Lion’s Club in New Cumberland. Hugh also is a former member of the New Cumberland Fire Department where he was a secretary. Hugh also was a member and served as secretary and treasurer to the board of directors of New Cumberland since 1999. He survived by his wife Tina. daughter Amanda, son Hugh, and daughter Jennifer. Hugh is also survived by two sisters Judy and Jane.
