Helen Nicolozakes – 1979

Helen Barbush Nicolozakes, 81, formerly of Cambridge, OH, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2016, West View Healthy Living’s Bridges Unit, Wooster, OH, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born January 28, 1935 in Weirton, WV to Gus and Aspasia (Mandakas) Barbush (Bourbakis) who emigrated from Chania, Crete, Greece.

She was a graduate of Follansbee High School and received her nursing degrees from West Virginia University and West Liberty State College. Helen was a respected surgical nurse at Weirton General Hospital, prior to leaving her career to dedicate herself to her husband and children.

She was married to the late William G. Nicolozakes on January 7, 1968, and is survived by her son, Dr. Alexandros W. (Heather) Nicolozakes and grandchildren, Constantine and Athanasios of Wooster, OH, and son, Attorney William A. (Elena) Nicolozakes and grandchildren, Marina Eleni and William C. of Zanesville, OH.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Dr. William M. (Cleo) Barbush of Annapolis, MD, and is also survived by her sister, Goldie (Demetri) Moutsatsos of Phoenixville, PA, and close cousin, Chrystal (Thomas) Bennett of Charleston, WV.

Helen was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian and member of Zoodochos Peghe (Life Giving Fountain) Greek Orthodox Church and St. James Philoptochos Women’s Organization of Cambridge, OH. She was also active in the WIC organization of Guernsey County, among other charitable organizations, and enjoyed equestrian activities, tennis, golf, water skiing, figure skating, and oil painting. She was an avid reader, skilled cook and especially enjoyed baking. She was a fan of Ohio State, traveling and the arts.
