Capt. Carmen Daniel (Dan), 74, of Hanahan, SC, and Big Coppitt Key, FL, died on October 1, 2016.
Dan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carolee; his sons, Dan and Brian Conti; and his sister, Patty Conti.
Dan was born in Wheeling, WV, on March 22, 1942, to Pasquale (Pat) and Rose Conti. He grew up in Benwood, WV, and graduated from Union High School in 1960. He attended West Liberty University and graduated in 1964 with a degree in business administration. He subsequently graduated from the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA.
His Navy career began as an ensign in December 1964. Dan retired in September of 1991 at the rank of captain as the Executive Officer of the Norfolk Naval Supply Center.
His awards included the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal.
In July of 1966, Dan married Carolee Zukas. Dan was a devoted husband, and proud father and grandfather to his six grandchildren.
Dan was a skilled woodworker, an avid golfer,and an ever-hopeful Cleveland Indians fan. He loved his daily walks with his wife and his dog. Dan was involved in many church activities at Immaculate Conception in Goose Creek, SC.
