Lary Loew Hilltopper Scramble is Ace Event for Athletics

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., June 19, 2018 — Every June, alumni and friends join the WLU Alumni Association in planning and supporting the Lary Loew Hilltopper Golf Scramble, scheduled for Monday, June 25, 2018.

“Every year we look forward to getting together at Oglebay and supporting West Liberty University athletics at our annual scramble. I’m very grateful to the many sponsors, teams and golfers who have signed up to play and participate,” said Jason Koegler, vice president of Institutional Advancement.

All funds raised through the annual golf scramble support funds raised go towards supporting student athlete success, according to Koegler.

A 1975 alumnus of West Liberty, Loew died in 2012 at age 59, after a serious illness and the annual golf scramble was named in his honor to recognize his love of golf and his alma mater.

Taking place at the Arnold Palmer Golf Course, Oglebay Resort, registration and lunch begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Dinner and awards follow at the conclusion of play.

Loew’s family continues to support the golf scramble and volunteer their time to assist in registration and other duties. Loew founded the Wheeling-based company, The Cornerstone Group, a full-service employee benefits agency, and his sisters, Brenda Thomas, Sharon Saseen and Carol Loew remain at the helm.

Loew also was inducted into the WLU Alumni Wall of Honor in 2011.
