Broadcasting Major Awarded Scholarship from BEA

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Jan. 11, 2018 — West Liberty University sophomore Walker Polivka of Shadyside, Ohio was awarded a scholarship recently from the Broadcast Education Association.

Polivka’s award is for $3,000.

Only nine students from seven different campuses nationally were awarded these scholarships after taking part in the association’s 2018-2019 competition. The winners were selected by the BEA Scholarship Committee, chaired by Pete Orlik, at its November meeting in Washington DC.

Polivka is the WLU radio station general manager WGLZ (91.5FM) and has a weekly radio show on Thursdays. He plans to continue in the broadcasting field after commencement, working either behind the scene or on-air.

Other schools with students receiving a BEA award include: Asbury University, Illinois State University, Oklahoma City College, University of Florida, University of Kansas and the University of South Carolina.

BEA scholarships are awarded to outstanding students for study on campuses that are institutional members of the organization. The 2019-2020 scholarship competition begins in March 2018.

The Broadcast Education Association (BEA) is the premiere international academic media organization, driving insights, excellence in media production, and career advancement for educators, students, and professionals. Established in 1955, initially as the Association for Professional Broadcast Education, more than 2,500 professors, students and media professionals are currently individual members and approximately 275 college and university departments and schools are institutional members.
