West Liberty University Celebrates National Dental Hygiene Month Through Community Partnership
October 22, 2026
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — In recognition of National Dental Hygiene Month this October, West Liberty University’s Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene is highlighting its longstanding partnership with Ohio County Schools, providing essential oral health services and education to local elementary students.
Through the partnership, West Liberty University dental hygiene students work with West Liberty Elementary School to provide dental cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatments, and oral health education twice each year. The initiative supports the oral health of local children while providing WLU students with valuable hands-on clinical experience.
“We appreciate the partnership between Ohio County Schools and our West Liberty University Dental Hygiene Program as it benefits both our county school children and our future dental hygienists. We hope to continue this partnership for years to come!” said Stephanie Meredith, Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene at West Liberty University.
The ongoing collaboration reflects the university’s commitment to experiential learning and community service. By working directly with elementary students, future dental hygienists have opportunities to apply their clinical knowledge, strengthen their patient care skills, and promote healthy oral hygiene habits at an early age.
As the partnership continues into another academic year, the Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene looks forward to providing these services and supporting the health and well-being of children throughout the local community.
West Liberty University blends a small-town environment with a comprehensive college experience, fostering students’ aspirations through hands-on learning, personalized support, and unique academic programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
