Professor Joseph Scarpaci recently received a letter of appreciation from the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) for his service as a member of the Urban Planning Committee for the Fulbright Specialist Program during the 2010-11 review term. The letter, written on behalf of the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education, recognizes Scarpaci’s participation in the peer review process, a hallmark of all Fulbright programs.
Since the inception of the Fulbright program in 1946, peer review has formed the foundation of the program’s integrity and high standing within the global community of scholars. CIES has organized and administered the peer review process for over 60 years. Over the course of the 2011 review term, 60 discipline Peer Review Committees evaluated 891 applications and approved 733 individuals for further consideration by the Presidentially appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB).
Professor Scarpaci will continue as a member of the Urban Planning review pool.
