Toppers ready for week of key Mountain East match-ups

With the regular season quickly coming to a close and the Mountain East Conference (MEC) tournament in Charleston awaiting teams at the end of the month, every game becomes important for seeding in the tournament.
 
For West Liberty’s men’s basketball team, this is certainly the case as picking up both wins this week, one on the road and one at home, can guarantee the Toppers the MEC Regular Season Championship and a No. 1 seed come tournament time.

The No. 5 West Liberty University men’s basketball team will take on West Virginia State tonight at 7:30 p.m., followed by University of Charleston on Saturday. With two wins this weekend, WLU will extend its current winning streak to four games.

On March 21, West Liberty University and President Dr. Stephen Greiner announced that head men’s basketball Coach Jim Crutchfield resigned from his position and will be taking the head coaching job at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This past weekend, Jim Crutchfield’s Hilltoppers traveled to Charleston, W. Va. and beat Glenville State, Wheeling Jesuit University and Fairmont State to take home their first Mountain East Conference tournament championship in school history.
