Football season concludes with a heartbreaking loss

Last week, the Hilltoppers took on Fairmont State University in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup. West Liberty fell just short in their season finale, by a score of 7-13. The Hilltoppers finished their season with a conference record of 3-7, and an overall record of 3-8, with the out of conference loss coming against nationally ranked Eastern New Mexico University

WLU tailback Ortiz joins elite status

No. 21 for the Black and Gold, Jeremiah Ortiz, made West Liberty history last night by becoming only the ninth Hilltopper in school history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. However, Ortiz’ record-setting performance wasn’t enough to prevail the Hilltoppers over Fairmont State.

WLU volleyball faces tough MEC test this weekend

The West Liberty women’s volleyball team will be closing at-home play in the 2017 regular season this weekend, with games against Fairmont State and Shepherd. Both of those teams sit towards the top of the Mountain East Conference (MEC).

After a tough loss against the University of Virginia Wise last weekend, the West Liberty Hilltoppers are hoping to find a solid rhythm as they head into the middle of their season. After starting the season 2-2, the Toppers have struggled to maintain momentum toward a win streak. They hope to begin that streak tonight on the hilltop.

After an unfortunate weekend against Shepherd this past week, the Hilltoppers will prepare for another tough test against the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons.  

Lady Toppers and Hilltoppers hope to continue wins against Fairmont

The WLU Lady Hilltoppers (1-4, 1-1 MEC) have struggled in the beginning games of the season, but they hope their luck turns around this Sunday also against the Fairmont State Lady Fighting Falcons (3-2, 1-1 MEC). 

The WLU Hilltoppers (6-0, 2-0 MEC) continue to impress as they remain undefeated through their first six games, but the Toppers will have their first major test as they face MEC rival Fairmont State (5-0, 2-0 MEC). The men’s game will be broadcasted nationally as well on TV on the Root Sports channel!

Hilltoppers take the loss at Notre Dame

West Liberty University took on Notre Dame College this afternoon and Notre Dame came out on top with a 30-14 victory. The Hilltoppers were coming off a heartbreaking loss on homecoming last weekend against UVA-Wise and they were trying to get to .500 on the season.

Turnovers cost the Toppers the game

West Liberty loses by a final score of 36-30 against Fairmont State Thursday night. The Hilltoppers turned the ball over seven times, including five interceptions and two fumbles. West Liberty took the lead late, but just couldn’t hold off the Falcon offense.
