Football season concludes with a heartbreaking loss

Last week, the Hilltoppers took on Fairmont State University in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup. West Liberty fell just short in their season finale, by a score of 7-13. The Hilltoppers finished their season with a conference record of 3-7, and an overall record of 3-8, with the out of conference loss coming against nationally ranked Eastern New Mexico University

No. 21 for the Black and Gold, Jeremiah Ortiz, made West Liberty history last night by becoming only the ninth Hilltopper in school history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. However, Ortiz’ record-setting performance wasn’t enough to prevail the Hilltoppers over Fairmont State.

WLU football prepares for season finale at Fairmont

Coming off of a disappointing loss last Thursday to an out of conference Eastern New Mexico University team, by a score of 24-45, the Hilltoppers will travel to Fairmont, W.Va. tonight to take on Fairmont State University. This Mountain East Conference (MEC) match-up is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff. West Liberty enters the final week of the season with a 3-7 record, whereas the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons enter in third place in the MEC, with a 7-3 record.

The West Liberty football team traveled to Institute, W.Va., where they fell 33-39 in a hard fought over-time battle against the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.

West Liberty football drops against Wesleyan

The West Liberty football team came up short in this afternoon’s battle against West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, W.Va., by a score of 34-0. Both teams came into the matchup with 1-0 records after both winning on their opening nights last Thursday.

Coming off of a huge opening night win against Urbana University last Thursday, the football team will be back in action Saturday afternoon against West Virginia Wesleyan College. The game will start in Buckhannon at 1 p.m., in a battle between 1-0 teams. 

Toppers head to Shepherd for MEC showdown

This weekend, the baseball team will travel to take on the Shepherd University Rams in a battle between two of the top teams in the Mountain East Conference. Last weekend, West Liberty won three out of four games against Urbana University to get the series win and two of the wins came in a walk-off fashion.
