Lady Toppers prepare to hit the hardwood for new season

The Lady Hilltoppers will see a notable change to its bench this upcoming season as Hall of Fame coach, Lynn Ullom, decided to step down as head coach after 26 seasons. However, with four returning starters and a stellar recruiting class, newly hired head coach, Kyle Cooper, is ready to preserve the program’s success.

‘Toppers Got Talent’ premieres next week on the hilltop

West Liberty’s new talent show, Toppers Got Talent, aims to challenge West Lib Idol. The four-week talent show will start at 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 6 and will continue on every Monday, Nov. 13, 20, and 27, in the College Union Ballroom.

West Liberty falls in final home game

On a beautiful November night at West Family Stadium, the Hilltoppers couldn’t stop the high powered Eastern New Mexico offense. The Toppers took home the 45-24 loss, in their final home game of the year.

WLU faces tough out-of-conference test at home

Tonight, the football team (3-6, 3-6 MEC) will host the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds (7-1, 6-1 LSC) at West Family Stadium. Losing five-straight games before last week’s win against Concord, the Toppers are hoping to salvage their season with wins in their final two games, but the Greyhounds are traveling nearly 1,500 miles to spoil that hope. 

West Liberty rolls Concord on senior day

It was a cold and rainy one on the Hilltop for senior day, as West Liberty University took on the Concord Mountain Lions in a Mountain East Conference match-up. The Hilltoppers came away with a huge 44-14 victory to improve to 3-6 on the season.

Senior volleyballer hopes to finish season off strong

Three years ago, heading into the 2014-15 season, head coach Kayla Mull of the Lady Hilltoppers volleyball program knew she needed a solid recruiting class if they wanted to compete in the Mountain East Conference. Traits like experience, height, quickness, jumping and mental toughness are characteristics Mull and every volleyball coach looks for. For the Hilltoppers, however, intelligence is at the forefront as well. One player in that recruiting class fits into all those categories: Erin Jans. 

Elbin Library celebrates ‘Banned Book Week’

The last week of September is considered “Banned Books Week,” which aims to celebrate books that have been challenged or banned and celebrate freedom of speech while bringing awareness to the negative impacts of censorship. From Sept. 24 to the 30, West Liberty University participated in the event.

‘As it is in Heaven’ offers a unique experience

On Oct. 5, the first showing of “As It Is in Heaven” premiered in Kelly Theater. The whole run of the show is being dedicated to Julie Alderfer, who was a part of the original play and recently lost her battle to cancer.

Homecoming returns to the hilltop this year on Oct. 14 with many fun events happening all week, bringing the campus community together and allowing both students and alumni to show their pride in being Hilltoppers.

Football returns to the hilltop for Homecoming game

This Saturday is homecoming on the Hilltop and all of the current and former Hilltoppers are eager for the battle on the gridiron. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. against the Glenville State College Pioneers in a Mountain East Conference battle. This will be the Hilltoppers’ seventh game of the season.
 
So far, the 2017 season hasn’t been what the team had expected as they come into the game with a 2-4 record. With five games remaining, the Hilltoppers will look to get on a big winning streak and finish the season with an above .500 record.
