Various student discounts available with ID, email

College may give you a college degree, but that’s not the only valuable thing. Use your .edu student email and ID to your benefit! Here are just some of the discounts that you can receive when using your West Liberty email or student ID.

Some restaurants offer a 10 percent discount or more if you show your student ID. However, it is important to mention that not all locations may participate in those bargains. This includes Buffalo Wild Wing’s, Arby’s, Dairy Queen, Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Waffle House. Next time you’re out to eat, remember to bring your student ID and check if any student discounts are available to you.

Students can also get a free six month trial of Amazon Prime, which includes free two day shipping, streaming, access to exclusive Prime deals and more when they sign up with their .edu email. After the trial ends, Prime can be renewed a year for $49 instead of the regular annual price of $99 for a year. However, if you don’t want the half-priced subscription after the free trial, make sure to end the trial or it’ll automatically renew and charge your card.

Multiple major newspapers across the country also have digital student subscription discounts. The New York Times currently has a deal going on for four weeks free and then $1 per week for their Basic plan afterwards, or $1.50 per week for their All Access plan. The Washington Post offers a free subscription to students, but also to members of the government, military and educators when signing up with an active .gov, .mil or .edu email address. Although these are digital and not physical copies, it is a way to stay updated on news.

Who doesn’t love to craft? Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has a student discount program available. Qualified high school and college students can get two coupons and a 10 percent discount on every purchase. To activate the program, all one has to do is go into the store and show a state-issued ID, and either a student ID, college acceptance letter or report card to the store manager to activate a discount card.

If you’re looking for more discounts, sign up for UniDays. It’s a website that lists exclusive deals, with partners such as Hollister, American Eagle, Levi’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Puma and many more. These deals include in-store along with online discounts.

Although most of these are online, don’t forget to utilize your student ID as well. The next time you’re at a store or restaurant, ask if there are any student discounts. It never hurts to ask, and it could save you some money in the process. Plus, don’t forget about the Microsoft Office deal mentioned on The Trumpet earlier this summer!
