West Liberty loses on senior night

The West Liberty Hilltoppers lost to Glenville State 41-14 at West Family Stadium on Thursday night.

The Hilltoppers said goodbye to 12 seniors as they played their final home game. They didn’t want to say goodbye to West Family Stadium with this loss, but football is football. West Liberty drops to 4-6 on the year as Glenville State advances to 7-3.

            The Hilltopper offense accounted for just 239 yards. Quarterback Dakota Conwell went 17 of 28 for 162 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Conwell also led the team in rushing with nine carries for 35 yards. Running back Jeremiah Ortiz had the lone rushing touchdown of the night. Senior tight end Daree Goodwin led the team in receiving with three catches for 62 yards. Wide receiver Max Capron had the lone receiving touchdown of the night.

            West Liberty’s defense allowed 507 yards of Pioneer offense. Linebacker Marcus Schumacher led the team in tackles with 10. Solomon Dixon, Quentin Sifford, and Jerimy Mask were all tied with eight tackles.

            Glenville State quarterback Dante Roberts went 30 of 40 for 338 yards and three touchdown passes. Roberts also added a rushing touchdown while carrying the ball six times for 19 yards. Running backs Tevin Drake and Rahmann Lee had a big game against the West Liberty defense. Drake ran the ball 17 times for 75 yards and one touchdown while Lee carried the ball 21 rimes for 64 yards. Wide receiver Damon Lampkin hauled in seven catches for 106 yards and one touchdown. Ralph Gordon caught six passes for 70 yards and one touchdown. Tight end Jake Harper also caught seven passes for 58 yards and one touchdown.

            Glenville State’s defense shut down the Hilltopper offense tonight. Safety Marcus Umu led the team in tackles with nine while cornerback Brandon Absher finished with eight tackles. Brandon Absher picked off a pass from Conwell and cornerback James Egnor intercepted a pass from Brenton Colabella.

            The Hilltoppers will play their final game of the year on the road at W. VA. State University next Saturday. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
