The West Liberty Hilltoppers escaped Wise, Virginia with a 30-6 victory. The Hilltoppers started the game off really slow, but finished their game off really strong. Regardless of how they started, they still came home with a win. West Liberty advanced to 4-3, while UVA-Wise dropped to 0-7 on the year.

West Liberty combined for 460 yards on offense. Quarterback Dakota Conwell went 19-42 for 284 yards, one interception, and two touchdown passes. Conwell was today’s player of the game. He also carried the ball 12 times for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Jeremiah Ortiz led the team in rushing with 20 carries for 80 yards. Conwell’s two primary receivers were Anton McCallum and Daree’ Goodwin. McCallum caught seven passes for 105 yards and one touchdown, while Goodwin caught five passes for 63 yards and one touchdown. Head coach Roger Waialae said, “The offense played really well in the second half, and Conwell is such a dual-threat quarterback, he gets it done on the ground and through the air.”

The West Liberty defense allowed just six points on 336 yards of UVA-Wise offense. Linebacker Andrew Faraimo led the defense with nine total tackles; three of those were tackles for a loss. Cornerback Solomon Dixon and linebacker Garrett Vulcano both had eight total tackles.

UVA-Wise could just not get anything going for them on offense today. Quarterback Jeremy Eubank 17-25 for 229 yards. Eubank got hurt more than halfway through the game, so they brought in backup quarterback Daniel Lewis. Lewis went 14-23 for 93 yards. Running back Carlton Griffith tocuhed the ball 17 times for 40 yards and one touchdown. He also caught ten passes for 81 yards. Wide receiver Terrence Younger led the team in receiving with nine catches for 93 yards.

The Cavalier defense did not play too bad today, but they just got too tired at the end of the game. Linebacker Timmy Meador led the team in tackles with 13. Cornerback Malik Shabazz had the lone reception on the day.

West Liberty will play next Thursday night at West Family Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7 P.M.
