Lady Hilltoppers Dominate the Moutain Lions and Cavaliers

Today the West Liberty University Women’s Tennis Team hosted the Concord University Mountain Lions and the University of Virginia’s College at Wise Cavaliers in back-to-back matches at the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex.

The hilltoppers entered today’s match ups after a 9-0 sweep over Grove City College at the beginning of the season along with an 8-1 win over Shepherd. The Lady Hilltoppers lost on the road at Queens College of New York in the early season.

The Lady Hilltoppers faced the Concord University Mountain Lions at 11 a.m. with the team as a whole defeating the Mountain Lions with a 9-0 victory. At the singles level, the Lady Hilltoppers dominated.

Raquel Quiles defeated Taylor Dixon (Concord Univ.) 6-0 in the first singles matchup. Emily Dawon defeated Erin Johnson (Concord Univ.) 6-1 then 6-0 in the second singles. Rhiannon James defeated Amy Ahern (Concord Univ.) 6-0 both times in the third singles match. Ana Berbel defeated Hannah Grove (Concord Univ.) 6-1 and 6-0 in the fourth singles match. Kate Pinchuk defeated Elizabeth Gamling (Concord Univ.) 6-0 and 6-0 in the fifth singles match. Lisa Nachtwey defeated Lelia Suydam(Concord Univ.) 6-0 and 6-0 in the sixth and final singles match up.

At a little after 1 p.m., the Hilltoppers faced the Cavaliers. The Lady Hilltoppers defeated the Lady Cavaliers 7-1 losing the number 3 doubles. At the individual level, the lady hilltoppers dominated once again just like they did when they went up against Concord.

In a dual match, Kate Pinchuk defeated Junetta Nuckles(Univ. of Virginia’s College at Wise) with a score of 6-0 then 6-1. Ana Berbel defeated MacKenzie Lawson (Univ. of Virginia’s College at Wise) also at 6-0 and 6-1. Andrea Puga defeated Marti Gray (Univ. of Virginia’s at Wise) 6-3 and 6-0. Rhiannon James defeated Haley Thacker (Univ. of Virginia’s at Wise) 6-1 and 6-3. Emily Dawson defeated Bailey Christaforatos (Univ. of Virginia’s at Wise) 6-2 and 6-1. During doubles, the Lady Hilltoppers only lost a dual match with the score being 8-6.

 Tomorrow at 3 p.m., the Lady Hilltoppers will host Slippery Rock University  in the Edgar Martin Tennis Complex and hopefully they can keep the momentum going.  Come and support the Lady Hilltoppers!
