Summer Fun

By Emily Dawson, Contributing Writer

Trying to make the most of your summer break while on a budget? Activities such as vacations, concerts, amusement parks, and fine dining can add up quickly, but there are many fun, alternate options that will help you to make the most of your resources. While some sought after summer fun can put quite a dent in your pocket, it’s important to enjoy the little things in life. After all, the best things in life are free.

1. Have some fun on the water.

Whether you have access to a pool, lake, river, or ocean, there’s no cooler way to spend a hot summer day than by making a splash. You can go for a swim, float on an inner tube or raft, or even rent a boat or jet-ski. No matter your preference, you’ll be sure to make the most of your summer break.

2. Appreciate the outdoors.

You can go on a hike to explore some new terrain, or camp outside to enjoy open space, fresh air, and the beauty of nature. While you’re there, you can relax by the soothing flames of a bonfire, but don’t forget the s’mores!

3. Instead of eating out, eat outdoors.

With cookouts and family gatherings, summer is the perfect time to master your skills on the grill. If that’s not for you, picnics are another great way to save money and have a good time.

4. Stay active.

Summer weather allows for fun in your own backyard. Activities such as baseball, football, Frisbee, and corn hole can be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home.

What you make of summer break is up to you. The possibilities are endless. Summer fun can be found almost anywhere; you just have to look for it. Most importantly, make sure that you take the time to enjoy the little things.
