One of the many things that attract people to Wheeling are the vast variety of restaurants in the area. This city offers some of the best meals around and have been featured in magazines all over the country. This summer, there are a few places that I highly suggest for a great summer lunch or dinner.
Later Alligator, which is located in Center Market, has a fantastic crepe and sandwich menu with names that will get your attention. My favorite sandwich there is easily the Pulp Fishin’. This yummy treat contains shrimp, avocado, lettuce, tomato and a delicious spread to set off the taste buds. I recently tried an appetizer consisting of brie, walnuts and honey on toasted baguette slices and it was to die for.
This little restaurant offers in door seating, outdoor seating, and few window seats which look out on the back patio and the entry way. You can really absorb the history of Wheeling when you take a seat in Later Alligator. Old newspaper and magazine clippings are posted on the walls inside of frames, along with the original ceiling detail which was painted gold upon Later Alligators opening. For a true Wheeling experience, you just have to stop here for a mid-day meal.
One of the most well-known restaurants in Wheeling goes back several decades. The Ye Olde Alpha, which is located just off of Edgington Lane, has in door seating with a very relaxed feel. This is an ideal place for large parties and people who want a menu with a wide variety. Monday is very popular amongst the Wheeling residents because it’s Mexican night. Why shouldn’t it be? Fajitas are perfect for curing a case of the Mondays.
The bruschetta here is over a foot long. Though it is such a large portion, you definitely won’t want to share it once you take your first bite. The Alpha is a definite hot spot on the weekend for bar-goers, but no worries – the restaurant side welcomes people of all ages.
One of the newest eateries in the city of Wheeling is Avenue Eats on Washington Avenue. This tiny eatery has a style all its own and has some of the kindest servers to date. You can sit inside, out on the patio or pick a spot overlooking Washington Avenue. This place has received rave reviews for its homemade cupcakes, some of which include peanut butter and jelly cupcakes, hot fudge sundae cupcakes, strawberry lime cupcakes, and a whole lot more.
There are far too many great restaurants in Wheeling to list all of them, but these are certainly a few that are well above average. To learn more about these restaurants and others in the area, pay Downtown, Woodsdale, the Highlands and everywhere else in the city a visit. Find out for yourself just how much Wheeling has to offer!
