West Liberty vs. Concord Game Recap

A strong showing from the Concord offense was too much for West Liberty as the Hilltoppers lost 61-24.

The Hilltoppers would strike first as they marched down the field on their first drive of the game, and quarterback Dakota Conwell would run it in for a eight yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. The Mountain Lions would answer midway in the first as Jermeil Douse would return a punt for a 65 yard touchdown to tie the game at 7. Concord quarterback Brian Novak connected with Douse for a 55 yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-7.

In the second quarter, Concord would kick a 42 yard field goal to make the score 17-7. The Hilltoppers would answer with a 28 yard field goal by Shawn Carl to make the score 17-10. However, Concord would answer as Novak connected with Ryan Stewart for a 38 yard touchdown pass with 7:36 left in the half. At 4:36 mark, the Mountain Lions blocked Griffin Yocum’s punt for a touchdown to make the score 31-10. On the following kickoff, West Liberty fumbled the ball and Concord recovered as Angus Harper scored from seven yards out to make the score 38-10 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, two minutes in, Concord would drive the field but settles for a 32 yard field goal to make the score 41-10.

West Liberty would answer at the 10 minute mark as Conwell connected with Anton McCallum for a 46 yard touchdown pass to make the score 41-17. Midway in the third quarter, the West Liberty special teams would come up big as Marco Ricchetti would block a Concord field goal, but the Hilltopper offense would go three and out on the following drive.

The Mountain Lions would answer on the following drive as Jamal Petty ran for a 34 yard touchdown run to make the score 48-17.

In the fourth quarter, Petty would score again from one yard out to make the score 54-17, the extra point was no good. Late in the fourth Concord added one more touchdown by Ethan Richardson 76 yards to make the score 61-17. The Hilltoppers would score a late touchdown as Conwell connected with Max Kapron from five yards out to cap the score 61-24.

Conwell completed 20 of 41 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. The Concord offense finished with a total of 533 yards of offense.

West Liberty now drops their record to 2-2 on the season and will travel to Pittsburgh next week to take on Division 1 (FCS) foe Duquesne University.
