Summer Paid Camps

In 2011 summer, students can participate in the summer paid camps as the follows:
  • Children’s Museum of the Ohio Valley Summer Camp, June 6 – August 5, 2011
  • Eagles Landing Camps & The Night Owls Summer Camp, June 11 – August 6, 2011
  • Glen Dale Child Development Center – Cool Camp, May 31 – August 12, 2011

Children’s Museum of the Ohio Valley Summer Camp
The Children’s Museum is looking for a few enthusiastic and talented summer camp counselors for 7 weeks (June 6 – August 5, 2011; 8 am – 3:30 pm) of day camp this summer. The Children’s Museum is especially interested in counselors with a background in:

  • Theatre Arts/Drama for young children (ages 4 – 10)
  • Agriculture/Gardening for young children
  • Animal Education & Handling (we have a lizard, turtle, tarantula and snake)
  • Science/Bubbleology for young children
  • American Sign Language for young children
  • Lifeguard & Counselor

The general responsibilities include:

  • To assist with implementation of quality summer camp program for children
  • To identify and meet the needs of campers

The specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that the campers are safe at all times
  • Supervise campers in your group during all parts of the day
  • Assist in teaching or leading activities
  • Maintain active participation with campers at all times
  • Identify and meet camper’s individual needs; seek assistance when necessary
  • Set a good example for campers by maintaining a good attitude
  • Maintain a positive and honest relationship with campers, staff and parents
  • Assist in set up and clean up of all camp activities
  • Promote a healthy, safe, supportive and exciting camp environment
  • Attend scheduled meetings and trainings

The First Aid and CPR training will be held on May 21, 2011. Other training dates will be announced. The position pays $100-$130 per week based on experience and expertise.  Apply by sending resume or make your inquires to:

Eagles Landing Camps & The Night Owls Summer Camp
Summer internships are available by the beach from June 11 to August 6, 2011!! All majors/minors welcome. Camp representatives will be on the WLU campus on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. They will conduct informational sessions in Main Hall 338 at 12 pm  Interviews for counselor positions will be held on Thursday and Friday (March 24 – 25, 2011). Glen Dale Child Development Center – Cool Camp
Application Deadline: April 13, 2011
The Cool Camp is run through Glen Dale Child Development Center in Glen Dale, West Virginia. The camp is for grade school students ages 6 – 12 years. The Cool Camp is looking for interested applicants in a teaching position for the camp. Some of the responsibilities of a Cool Camp teacher include: helping to serve meals to students, supervising and administering fun and educational activities, supervising field trips and weekly pool trips to the local pool, etc. It is a 40-hour a week job. The camp runs from May 31 – August 12th, 2011, however if hired you may be needed up to a week in advance. The Cool Camp daily hours are 9 am – 4 pm, however as a teacher you would be required to work some before and after care hours. The position pays 7.25 an hour, and it looks amazing on your resume, especially as future teachers.

Requirements for the position include: being a college student in Elementary Education or Child Development, experience working with children in an educational or summer camp setting, two-three personal references, two-three professional references, a typed resume, CPR training, a current food handlers card, first aid training, a recent physical, and a TB test. For most of these requirements other than the references, being a college student, and having experience will children, as long as they can see that you are making an attempt to receive these certifications at the time of the interview you should be okay.

If you would like to apply for the position as a teacher at the camp, you will need to turn in a typed resume by April 13, 2011. Individuals interested in applying may want to simply take their resume in and deliver it personally rather than waiting for it to be sent in the mail, as this can be a rather slow process. As said above, you will need a resume with at least two personal references with contact information, and two professional references with contact information. The directors of Glen Dale Child Development Center’s names are Rita and Debbie. Once again, to save time please print off your resume and deliver it personally. Once the CDC directors receive your resume they will call you to schedule an interview, then after reviewing all the applicants they will call you and let you know if got the position.
