April 28, 2012 – West Liberty, WV – The West Liberty Exercise Physiology Club sponsored the first annual Team MOJO 5K Fun Run/Walk Saturday. The club raised over a thousand dollars and had close to 50 racers in it’s inaugural running. “Our main goal was to get the event started and raise awareness. The fact that we made a profit was a huge success. Next year we hope the event will be even bigger,” said Kristi Hardesty, club co-president.
The Fun/Run was the club’s final activity for the 2012 school year. “The members choose Team MOJO as their philanthropy project for the spring semester because of the organization’s commitment to children and healthy lifestyles,” said Rick West, club moderator and instructor in Ex. Phys. Team MOJO is a nonprofit organization committed to creating opportunities for underprivileged young people in the areas of education, art, music, sports, life skills and other worthwhile endeavors by providing support, guidance and financial assistance. The organization supports the children of the Upper Ohio Valley.
“We could not have been successful today without the support of those who donated, participated, and the generosity of our sponsors,” said Desiree Dennis, club co-president. Corporate sponsors, Your Auto Connection and Metropolitan Environmental Services Inc. donated T-shirts for the event. Local Subway, Domino’s, and Panera Bread all donated food for race day.
The Exercise Physiology Club consists of approximately 60 majors within the Department of Health and Human Performance housed in the School of Education at West Liberty University. For more information on Team MOJO visit their website at http://www.teammojofoundation.org.
