Jazz Saxophone Night Gives Students Professional Experience

The public is welcome to attend West Liberty University’s Jazz Saxophone Night, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22. The free musical performance takes place in Elbin Auditorium, College Hall.

The show will feature two musical groups, one composed of current WLU music students along with a professional saxophone quartet, “Back Home Jazz Sax Quartet,” led by Department of Music and Theater Chairman Dr. Christopher Barrick.

“This is an example of the special opportunities for music students here at WLU. Our saxophone students are looking forward to the chance to perform the jazz show and at the same time, will benefit from the performance of the generous professionals who have volunteered their time to perform. We are grateful to the Back Home Jazz Sax musicians for sharing their skills with us,” Barrick said.

The West Liberty University Saxophone Quartet student ensemble includes: Eli Lambie, Moundsville, soprano and alto saxophones; Anthony Panebianco, Wintersville, alto saxophone; Seth Keeney, Wheeling, tenor saxophone; Sam Farabee, Claysville, baritone saxophone; with Josh Garrett on drums.

The professional jazz sax quartet includes the musical talents of: Christopher Barrick, soprano saxophone; Keith Young (Indiana University of Pennsylvania), alto saxophone; Benjamin Saylor, (United Jr./Sr. High School, Armagh, Pa.), tenor saxophone; Michael Menzietti (Latrobe Area Schools, Latrobe, Pa.), baritone saxophone; with Eric Diewald on drums.
