VOICE/PIANO/STRINGS – (click here for instrumental)
Region VI Music Educators:
Greetings! I hope this school year is treating you well. It’s time to start preparing for the 2011 Solo and Ensemble Festival. I always enjoy seeing and speaking with each of you, finding out what’s going on in your schools, and hearing the product of the wonderful job you do with your students. Attached is a handy flier reminder of due dates.
To those who are NEW Teachers in the Region: welcome! This Solo and Ensemble Festival is a judged competition for your students in grades 4-12. It always happens in February. Students get ratings of 1-4 for their performances. Students can be entered in different categories (voice and piano; string and vocal, etc.) and for multiple performances (each song/piece counts as one entry). There is no graded repertoire list for WV students. Special honors ratings are given to standout performers, who are then able to make a CD audition in order to be selected for the State Honors Recital (Deadline: Feb. 13), which happens during the WVMEA festival, March 24-26, 2011.
There are multiple ways to register this year. You can register:
1. Via the web, at this address: http:// go.westliberty.edu/music/
You’re already here! See below.
2. You may email an Excel spreadsheet with all the pertinent information on it. Just make sure you include the same information fields as the registration page. Please return a tally sheet with your payment.
3. Click to download the application form and tally sheet (both are in Word format). Feel free to duplicate as needed. Fill out one form per student or ensemble. Return all forms and tally sheet together to Dr. Linda Cowan, CSC 125- Dept. of Music and Theater, WLU, PO Box 295, West Liberty,WV 26074.
If you have concerns, or if you are bringing a very large number of students with only
one accompanist, please feel free to either call or email me, and we can work out special
arrangements for times and rooms, etc.
Sending your registrations and monies in by WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 26 will help me determine the number of judges and room reservations. I will email you your room assignments and times, so don’t forget to put your email address(es) on the form.
A registration check-in table will be located in the Media Arts Center (MAC) Lobby. We will be offering recording services to anyone who would like to make a recording on Saturday in our state-of-the-art recording studio for a small fee. State nominees will be given priority in the studio, but all are welcome to record. Information regarding this service will be located in the lobby at the registration desk as well. Adjusted schedules will be available here.
If you have any questions, or are new and want more info, suggestions of repertoire or anything else, please do not hesitate to call me or email at the address listed below. Make sure you keep my phone number-it’s my cell/home, and will be answered on the festival day.
