Because of the tremendous support of our Alumni and Friends during the Annual Campaign last year, West Liberty University Foundation experienced an increase in fundraising despite the recession. While WLU was experiencing this increase, state colleges and universities across the nation were at an all time low in private fundraising. The 2009 Index of Higher Education Fundraising Performance by Target Analytics indicated that overall, the change in median revenue was down 13 percent. For retained donors this median change was 12.9 percent, and for reactivated donors an even starker decline of 15.9 percent. This is the big and all too common story of 2009 for higher educational annual fund programs.
