Title: Rest Periods and Breaks | Revised: 07/01/97; 03/15/05 |
Approval Date: 04/19/06 | President’s Signature: on file |
STATEMENT:
Each staff employee is afforded the opportunity to have one 15-minute rest period during each half-day work period.
PROVISIONS:
I. Availability of such rest periods depends upon the nature of the work in the various departments and whether such work may be interrupted. Absences from work areas must be arranged in a manner that will not disrupt the services of the department.
II. If the efficient operation of the unit requires a practice other than that stated above, the Supervisor/Department Head may establish such a practice. However, that practice will be considered an exception to University Procedure, and the details of its practice must be placed on file in the Human Resources Department and are subject to approval prior to being implemented.
III. An employee may combine these “break periods” for the purposes of adjusting the work schedule (i.e. the lunch period) or in “making-up” educational release time granted. Any adjustment of break times must be approved in advance by the individual employee’s supervisor. Any approved adjustment or combination of break times shall not be considered as permanent and will be subject to review according to the employee’s departmental operating schedule.
