  • May 8, 2008: Full ten-year re-accreditation is granted by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Fall 2008: Freshman Laptop Program initiated
  • Fall 2008: Master of Arts in Education Program commences
  • May 3, 2009: University status is achieved and the name is officially changed to WLU
  • August 2009: Highlands Center opens
  • Fall 2009: Football team wins WVIAC Title and advances to NCAA D-II National Quarterfinals
  • Fall 2009: Offensive Tackle Ben Staggs wins the 2009 National Gene Upshaw Award as the NCAA D-II Lineman of the Year
  • Fall 2010: Quarterback Zach Amedro, two-time runner-up for the NCAA D-II National Player Award, becomes the All-Time Leading Passer in NCAA D-II history
  • Spring 2011: Men’s Basketball Team finishes the regular season Ranked No. 1 in the Nation in NCAA D-II and advances to the Final Four of the National NCAA D-II Tournament, after compiling a WVIAC Record 33-Game Winning Streak
  • Spring 2011: Women’s Basketball Team advances to its third NCAA D-II Regional Tournament in five years
  • Spring 2011: Tori Hansen is named the 2011 Women’s Basketball National Academic All-American of the Year for All Divisions of NCAA and is a national finalist for the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the first finalist ever from any WV college or university
  • Spring 2011: Women’s Golf Team wins its third WVIAC Title in four years
  • Spring 2012: Center for Entrepreneurship is launched
  • Spring 2012: Men’s Basketball Team finishes regular season ranked No. 3 in the nation in NCAA D-II and advances to the Elite Eight of the National NCAA D-II Tournament, after winning its third consecutive WVIAC Title
  • Spring 2012: Tyler McCullough wins the 2012 NCAA D-II National Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award
  • Spring 2012: Men’s Tennis Team advances to its fourth NCAA D-II Regional Tournament in five years
  • Spring 2012: Women’s Tennis Team advances to its third NCAA D-II Regional Tournament in five years
  • July 2, 2012: Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program commences.
