Outstanding Education Major Awards
Each year, the Department of Professional Education recognizes two senior education majors who the faculty has rated as the most outstanding members of the graduating class.  In order to be eligible for this honor, students must meet the following criteria:

  • An overall G.P.A. of 3.50 or above
  • G.P.A. of 3.50 or above in education
  • Nomination by one or more faculty members
  • Outstanding performance in student teaching
  • Demonstration of the personal and professional characteristics of an outstanding teacher
  • Membership in Kappa Delta Pi (recommended)

During the spring semester of each year, the Awards and Scholarship committee collects nominations from the faculty for the Outstanding Education Major Awards.  The committee assures that all nominees meet the G.P.A. requirements listed above and contacts the university supervisor of each nominee to verify that the nominee has demonstrated outstanding performance in student teaching.

The names of all nominees who meet these criteria are presented to the faculty of the Department at a faculty meeting for discussion and a vote to select two recipients.
